The Panasonic VIERA 3D Full HD Plasma TV, which was launched today, is the company’s debut into the 3D TV segment and it is offering two models – the 50\” and 65\”, both promising to bring \”superior 3D depth and realism\” into the living room.
\”Although our TVs today are flat and thin, Panasonic’s 3D Full HD allows us to witness astounding depth from within our flat screen TVs, challenging our existing boundaries of reality – a showcase of depth and realism like never before,\” said Panasonic Malaysia managing director Jeff Lee.

The company aims to sell 1,000 units of the 50-inch model and 500 units of the 65-inch model by year-end.
It also aims to maintain its market leader position in the flat panel TV segment, of which it has a current market share of 20%.
The new 3D TV comes with advanced features such as five million-to-one native contrast ratio, Blacker Black Panel, High Speed 3D Drive Technology and Crosstalk Reduction Technology which produces high picture quality in both 2D and 3D.
Available at 185 authorised dealers and Panashops throughout Malaysia, the 3D TVs are priced at RM14,999 for the 50\” and RM23,999 for the 65\”. A pair of 3D eyewear is bundled with every purchase of these models.
Panasonic Malaysia is also offering a complimentary promotional package for every purchase of the new 3D TVs that includes an additional pair of 3D eyewear worth RM699, a Panasonic 3D Blu-ray player worth RM2,499, High Speed HDMI cable worth RM199, two 3D Full HD movies on Blu-ray and 3D Blu-ray.
Buyers also have the option of topping up RM199 for a Panasonic Skype Camera worth RM699 or RM1,999 for a Panasonic 3D camcorder worth RM5,499.
The 3D camcorder was also launched today and allows consumers to record their own 3D home videos.
Lee said now is the prime time for 3D viewing, with major movie studios in Hollywood beginning to focus on 3D productions and an increasing number of 3D movies coming out each year.
\”In 2009, there were a total of 13 3D movies screened in the box office. This year, there are 24 3D titles. As for 2011, 31 3D movies have already been identified, and it is inevitable that this figure will increase. In Malaysia, our cinema halls are also being upgraded to accommodate 3D, despite the hefty upgrading costs,\” he said.
Deputy Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Joseph Salang, who officiated the launch, said Panasonic Malaysia’s introduction of the 3D camcorder is a firm step in the direction of increasing the demand for 3D.
\”I believe 3D is significant because it is a platform for progressive development. I would like to see creativity stem from this platform amongst our young Malaysians … wouldn’t it be great to see 3D films and documentaries showcasing Malaysians’ diverse culture in the near future?\”
He also challenged all local film makers to be creative and come up with something truly Malaysia and groundbreaking.
\”In Malaysia, other than the cinema, some viewers had a first taste of 3D HD TV transmission during the recent World Cup final through the courtesy of Astro. Currently there are 3,000 to 4,000 households which are equipped to receive the 3D HD TV transmission,\” he said.
While US, UK and Japanese audiences are already enjoying 3D TV transmissions, the industry in Malaysia is not ready because there is not enough 3D equipment, said Salang.
\”Planning and discussion for 3D TV transmission are still essentially in the early stages,\” he said, adding that the government is looking forward to opportunities in working with the private sector to cater to the needs of the evolving entertainment industry.
